Colored Pencils on Dark Cardstock

I just can't stop coloring on dark cardstock with my Spectrum Noir Colored Pencils. It's kind of magical and it makes me feel very artsy.

I used the Let's Do Lunch set from the Frou Frou range and a sentiment from Stamp It Australia Imagine (Friendship Sentiments). I die cut my sentiment with one of the Die'Sire Essentials Squares and finished the card off with some rhinestones and pearls. She's a fancy luncher.

Frou Frou Thinking of You

The Love Letters stamp set from the Frou Frou range at Crafter's Companion is my favorite Frou Frou. She's so elegant, slightly melancholy, terribly stylish; however, this image has always terrified me. Coloring her with the markers intimidated me, and I wasted lots of cardstock practicing. Coloring her seemed much more manageable with the Spectrum Noir Blendable Colored Pencils. It took a couple of hours to finish the color panel, I love the pencils on Kraft Cardstock.

Here are the supplies I used to create this card, available at Crafter's Companion:

Violet Best Wishes

nope, i said "violet best wishes"!

more colored pencils on vellum--this time i did blend with the odorless mineral spirits and i don't love it. the colors went sort of streaky, but it's a look. this is one of my favorite cards, ever. i just love this violet stamp set from sheena douglass' floral fantasy range.

see what i used to make this card below:

Colored Pencils on Vellum: Who Knew???

This started as an experiment, but I really love the result.

I stamped my flowers and stems onto cardstock vellum with stazon. Once dry, I colored right over the stamped image with Spectrum Noir Blendable Colored Pencils. There's just enough tooth to the vellum to take the color and they blend so beautifully. Next, I think I'll try blending with OMS on the vellum!

I Was Wondering...

...what inks played best with the Crafter's Companion Gamsol Blending Solution. So I did some experimenting. I gathered up all of the black ink pads I have (no small task, I have all of the inks) and stamped an image from Sheena Douglass' A Taste of India Henna Mango set in each black ink on a strip of Crafter's Companion Ultra Smooth Premium White Cardstock.

These are my results:

  • in the area that is circled, i dripped blending solution
  • where the pink is i blended Spectrum Noir Blendable Colored Pencil with a blending stump saturated in blending solution
  • at the swirly tail, i swiped a clean saturated blending stump over the area
  • all inks were heat set before i began my experiment

Bebunni Christmas

SN pens: blender, PP1, GG1, GT2, BT2, CR7, CT1, CT2, CT3, CT4
SN pencils: Essentials; 004, 009, 015, 020, 112, 120 | Marine; 114 | Marine; 053, 054, 062

Here's another sneak peek of the new Bebunni Christmas stamps. I used my Spectrum Noir markers and pencils to color this image, I love that I'm able to get so much depth and shading when I use the 2 together.

I distressed the crap out of this card, those pattern papers reminded me so much of peeling wallpaper, and the way they "took" the distress ink was different and interesting, the water spots turned out very cool, I think.

Dreams Are Forever

I colored these 3 babies with my Spectrum Noir Blendable Pencils. I used only the Essentials set for this project, the paper stumps and blending solution; as well as the King For A Day stamp set and Angelica and Adam 6x6 girl paper pad.

I've added a few photos of my quick and messy process. When blended with the odorless mineral spirits, you don't have to be tidy or perfect, which is great for me with the kids home for the summer.

My supplies: stamped images from Sheena Douglass A Little Bit Sketchy King for a Day set, Spectrum Noir Blendable Colored Pencils-Essentials, Spectrum Noir Blending Stumps, Spectrum Noir Blending Solution

I colored the branch with 089 and 091.

I added color to the bird bodies with 112, 117 & 119.

I colored feet, beaks and eye rings with 015 and 022.

I added color to heads and chests with 071 and 067.

I used 001 and 067 to add some sky around the trio.

Finally, I added 120 to the deepest shadows.

I blended my coloring with paper stumps and blending solution.

To finish off the card, I did some simple die-cutting and added some shimmer to the background and the patterned paper

Every Girl Has One

Crafter's Companion is releasing another group of Scruffy Little Cat girls on the 19th of June. I am loving these busty, big-lashed beauties. I colored Jessica, here, with Spectrum Noir Blendable Colored Pencils on Crafter's Companion Kraft Cardstock. These pencils make me feel like a magician. I blended pencil on pencil, because I wanted my coloring to be opaque. I love the way my coloring just jumps off the kraft cardstock. I used a sentiment from the Jessica set and some patterned paper from the Angelica & Adam 6x6 girl paper pad.
