Crafter's Companion Monday

(let's see if that sticks, heh)

I'm sharing a card using one of my favorite Sheena Douglass A Little Bit Floral stamp sets. Irises are one of my favorite favorite flowers. I love that they bloom fairly early and hang around for quite awhile. My Mammaw's yard has 3 or 4 big beds of large, bearded irises--yellow and purple and white ones.

When I was a little girl, I was always allowed to pick whatever I wanted out of her flower beds--she loved sharing seeds and starts and blooms with anyone who wanted them. She always said that the more you share the more your garden grows. And she always urged her friends not to thank her when she shared, saying that their flowers wouldn't grow if they did!

I colored my bearded iris with Spectrum Noir Markers LV1 & LV2. It's a pretty big jump between these 2 shades of lavender, so I scribbled some of the darker marker onto an acrylic block and picked color up with my paler marker--creating that mid shade and facilitating blending. Since purple and yellow are complimentary, meaning they are across from each other on the color wheel, I feathered the color with the Blender where those 2 colors meet. Complimentary colors, when mixed together, create a special color that I like to call "mud".

I did some creative fussy cutting around part of my iris. It's such a large image, I wanted it to be the focus but still create a fairly clean design. I added some narrow strips of cardstock onto a pale blue card base and popped my iris panel up on dimensional adhesive. I stamped a sentiment from the clear set that comes in the latest issue of Crafter's Companion Inspiration Magazine (YES! a stamp set. in a magazine. and much much more!)

Your mammaw sounds like an angel. I always got impatient when my girls picked things out of the garden. But that's cos I never did anything to make them grow, so when they did it was such a surprise I didn't want them to be picked only to die in a vase.

Love the colours. <3
